PostHeaderIcon Sinister Smiles DVD

The Minor Leagues are pleased to announce the arrival of their first DVD. "Sinister Smiles" was produced, directed, and edited by the visually-gifted Chris Collins, and unveiled with a viewing party and concert at the Northside Tavern on May 22nd. The disc contains music videos for Travel Agent, Lost In Ex-Lives, and Good Boys, along with a boatload of live footage, and a photo montage detailing the band's history from 2001 to the present day. Each disc was given unique DIY custom DVD label "artwork" by bandmembers and close friends. If you have a copy, head over to our Facebook page and claim your DVD and check out the ones you missed out on. If you haven't yet got a copy, head to a show and pick up a copy.

PostHeaderIcon May / June Shows

The Minor Leagues have a few more shows lined up for this spring before heading back into the studio to record the followup to "This Story Is Old, I Know, But It Goes On." On May 22nd, TML will be releasing their first official DVD release, featuring the music video for "Travel Agent," as well as some various other goodies. To coincide with this release, TML will be playing a DVD release show at Northside Tavern, with Midstates and the Choir of Ghosts, Sleeping Sea, and Panda Riot.

The following week, we will be playing a pair of shows. On Saturday, May 29th, The Minor Leagues will return to Dayton's South Park Tavern for a show with Vanity Theft and The Quickturns. On Sunday the 30th, TML will be making their first-ever appearance at the Taste of Cincinnati event, 4:30 on the Metromix Stage at the P&G Garden.

Finally, on June 11th, The Minor Leagues will be hitting the stage on Fountain Square as a part of the PNC Midpoint's Indie Summer showcase.

Following this string of shows, TML will heading to Nashville to begin tracking new material with the help of Sean Sullivan. This should be an eventful summer...

PostHeaderIcon Vintage TML - Better Than Me

As a band that has been around for 9 years now, The Minor Leagues have plenty of lesser known songs in their catelog. Starting with this entry, The Minor Leagues will feature a semi-regular showcase of songs from their older releases.

This first issue of "Vintage TML" highlights the track "Better Than Me" from the lesser-known "Sometimes My Arms Bend Back" album. The album, which was released in 2003, was somewhat lost in the shuffle after the release of "Be Kind To Beginners" and the start of the TML Singles Of The Month project. Despite the album's relative obscurity, there are many classic TML tracks lingering just below the surface (and a classic album cover). Songs from "Sometimes My Arms Bend Back" made up the bulk of the setlist for The Minor Leagues' earliest shows in 2003. "Better Than Me" was one of the more straightforward compositions on that album. Many of the trademarks of latter-day TML can be found in the song. After a long drought of live performances, the song made an appearance in the setlist on March 13th in Louisville as The Minor Leagues broke out the acoustic guitars for a trimmed down set. A free download of the song can be found here.

Lyrics:
You’re all alone / Your world’s cold
Promises sold turned out fools gold
No one to phone / No one to hold
Lost your soul at 22 years old

I just don’t know how to say I’m sorry
Except to say please don’t worry
I’m sure you’ll find someone better than me

I was sincere this time last year
When I held you near and we had no fears
But time reveals unreal from real
The rust from steel / The touch from feel

Don’t you know it hurts me too just to think about you
Crying, trying to figure out the things I do
And when it comes down to what I put you through
The hardest part for me is that I always knew
So know that I sleep every night with this in mind
And know that I still miss your pretty face sometimes
Well for all I know you’re not so low
You’re out on your own and you’re starting to grow
Maybe found a new beau and you go to shows
I hope so / I hope so
